One month planner update!

Well, here I am at the end of the first month of 2021, reporting on how this hot pink, little planner of mine has revolutionized my life.  I know, that’s a hefty word, but it’s absolutely appropriate.

As I have previously shared, I am a woman of great intentions with embarrassingly poor follow through. Over the years, I have tried to elevate this shortcoming by calling  myself “an idea” person, as if birthing an objective is the sum total of my capability and my only responsibility. Needless to say, I became an idea hoarder;  lots of groovy mind clutter – very little to show for it.

Back to the planner..

I felt like Goldilocks last December as I perused the myriad of planner styles available on Amazon. Some were way too basic, others were so deep and complex, you’d need hours, and the guidance of a psychologist,  to fill in all the boxes. The “Go Girl” planner I eventually chose was the perfect middle ground for me.

Here are the top 3 features of this planner:

#1 THE HABIT TRACKER- this is one small little area where you simply track your daily progress in 5 categories by filling in a small box. I have become a FREAK about filling in those tiny squares. It is THE strangest thing, but the satisfaction derived from a fully penciled in grid is ..well, it’s weird..but it works. What kind of things have been on my habit tracker? Anything from drinking 80oz of water a day to remembering my vitamins, grooming the dog, completing a daily lesson on Rosetta stone and lifting weights.

#2 There is a blank “notes space” available every week for “mind-mapping.” This has proven to be an enormous help as I pick a new area to focus on every week and collate the tasks necessary to support the corresponding goals. My first week’s focus was simply USING THE PLANNER. The second week’s focus was HEALTH, third week was PRODUCTIVITY and this week’s focus was addressing 3 specific, stalled PROJECTS of mine. Next week’s focus will be THE HOUSE; spring cleaning, organizing, a trip to Goodwill..  It has been super helpful and highly effective to have, what I’d almost describe as, a “theme” to each week.

#3 In the front of the planner there are areas to write down and map out your over-arching vision  and supporting priorities for the year. I take the time every few days to review those pages and see if I’m on track.

The magic of this planner is that it functions not only an organizational tool, but an accountability station as well. The satisfaction derived from completing tasks, staying on track and attaining goals keeps motivating you onward to bigger and even better things.  The real “revolution” for me has been the realization of how much I can achieve by putting a saddle on the stallion of my runaway thoughts and ideas.

  3. Cindy, Great post, though I’m not a list maker, or a planner carrier. I have an over all plan and then check in each morning to see what needs to be done that day. It helps to have a few things that require deadlines like my blog, podcast posts and teaching duties. I’m also commenting here to thank you for liking at least one of my blog posts, “Where Do We Go From Here?” recently. I appreciate you reading and liking it. I’m sure you will reach your goals using this planner. I’m rooting for you!
