Someone, turn on the light!

Getting out of bed at night can be hazardous.

There are large and small shadows everywhere. It’s my room, in my house, but when it’s dark, I might as well be on Mars; nothing seems familiar.. I am a foreigner in my own home.

It struck me that this is how it feels when our lives are overwhelmed with uncertainty, disorder and fear. We open our eyes and dark shadows are there waiting, some in forms we can identify, many not.

The antidote of course is light.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.-Psalm 119:105

Light doesn’t make our circumstances disappear, but it can clarify what they are and help guide us through them.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.-John 1:5

Light banishes the shadows, many of which are much larger than the actual thing that is casting them.

Light helps us “right size” our worries.

The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?-Psalm 27:1

Light drives away fear.
