I’m sorry, I’m showing my age..did I say hairdresser? I meant stylist..
regardless..
Here’s the problem..these trips to get “styled” are mentally exhausting and I am never blown away (haha..😉) with the results.
It’s not her fault, it really isn’t..it’s me.. but regardless (again), this entire process is becoming way more existential than it should be. I think it’s an age thing.
I KNOW it’s an age thing!
24 hours before my appointment, the cycle starts. I’m on google, scrolling through “haircuts for women over 50.”
Why do I keep doing that?
And why does Jennifer Aniston pop up everywhere, all. of. the. time?

I’m sure she’s a lovely person and all, and I still feel bad about the whole Brad Pitt thing, but is her hair really the best hair in the whole world? (I thought Cher had that title..is Cher even still alive?)
Regardless..
The real question is, why can’t I just go to the hairdresser (stylist) and simply say these words: “I’ll take the usual “Sally.”

Nope..
I gotta keep trying to find that hairstyle that’s finally gonna change my look, rock my (husband’s) world.. make me look “fresh.”
Loosely translated, make me look young(er).

Maybe I go through this every time because the salon has gotten so obscenely expensive. I mean for THAT much money..shouldn’t I come out of there with at least ten years trimmed off.. my face?

“Now we’re getting somewhere” a therapist would say.. “no wonder you’re always disappointed.”
As I said.. it’s exhausting..
😂

i go through the exact same thing every time as well. my daughters always tell me my hair looks the same no matter what, as it has for years.) this last time i went with a much shorter cut and i’m so happy, i wake up, wash it or not, and it’s done in 2 minutes. )

I went short last time..one length..looked great that day and then I started to look like Lord Farquaad..or Betty Crocker.. I think it’s the humidity here. Oh well..this time I asked for layers and I look like..well, I look like I went to the Super Cuts training academy..it’s bad..and no, I for sure don’t look younger..HAHA.

it’s an ongoing battle for me….this time, not too short, kind of shaggy layers, but i cut off all my covid witch hair, and i’ll keep it cut for now, and see how it goes )

My friends tease me because I’ve been getting a variation of the same haircut for 30 years. I just tell my stylist to “freshen it up” so she tweaks it a bit each time

I go ponytail length with layers..back to short, no layers..back and forth, back and forth with an occasional (often regretted) bang cut every so often..now color..that’s where it gets crazy..

I went from dark brown to blond and to light brown which is where I think I’ll reside from now on

I used to get high and low lights, but I looked way too striped. Now I only get highlights and it’s allowing my grey to naturally blend in. I think I like it..but who knows anymore.

I did low lights before I went to light brown. Single process is just easier

I can so relate to this. Right now my shoulder is so painful the best I can manage is a pony tail. I have no intention of cutting my hair because I would not be able to manage it. A much younger woman once cattily commented that I was trying to be a teenager again. Really? Only teenagers can have long hair? Whatever.
Every time I go to a hairdresser they want me to dye my hair. They tut-tut over my grey and silver streaks but I have no intention of paying the exorbitant prices they charge for that. Besides, I don’t mind my grey streaks, why should anyone else? LOL
I am very much against the whole array of pressures brought to bear on women to look younger, be thinner, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Okay, that’s enough out of me on that soap box. LOL
A nice hair cut does make me feel better. I hope you got what you wanted/needed.

I am convinced “haircuts for women over 50” is much like “swimsuit body.” If you have a swimsuit, and you have a body….you have a swimsuit body. If you have a haircut….you know the drill.
My hair is actually a number of colors (purple, green, pink etc) and it’s longer on one side than the other. You could say it’s the perfect cut for an indecisive person because it is literally a little of everything! 😀
