Keep the light on.

Remember that TV ad for Motel 6?

I always thought that was such a great tag line, reinforcing the idea that the hotel was always open to welcome you in.

Hang with me a minute, but I feel like too many of us shut off the light, pull in the welcome mat and lock the door as we age..not to our homes, but to our heads.

We become close-minded..the porch lights are out.

‘Exhibit A’ is my mom who for decades refused to use a computer.. of ANY kind. It’s too late now, but her life would have been made so much easier and more interesting and her communication with relatives would have been vastly enhanced if she had just been open to this technology.

I thought about her as I did my hair yesterday with my brand new, amazing flat iron. On our recent stay with our daughter she encouraged me to spend a bit more money to improve my ‘hair game.’ My old iron was a “hand-me-up” from one of our kids; a mini travel sized thing with a broken spring so using it was like working with a pair of kitchen tongs. But it still got (super) hot so I kept it, no doubt frying my hair with every pass.

When I saw how expensive a “good” flat iron was, I immediately “turned off the light.” But after using my daughter’s for a few days and hearing her make the case for better skin and hair products, I opened my mind (and my wallet) and purchased the one below.

What a HUUGE difference.

(Lesson learned!!)

So keep the “light” on my dear friends, if nothing else you could wind up with healthier hair. 😉
