I’m breaking up with hand sanitizer.
You heard me right, I’m done with it. My daughter sent me a Rich Roll podcast last week and his guest, Dr. Robynne Chutkan discussed the importance of our microbiome and how western societies are overdoing it with our squeeky-clean-living. Folks, we have been bubble wrapping our immune systems and the results of our efforts are the opposite of what we hoped for.
According to the data, developed nations have washed, sanitized, filtered, purified, medicated and bleached their way into a whole host of health problems including asthma, allergies, IBS, auto immune disorders, anxiety and much worse.
And this was BEFORE Covid.
I don’t know about you, but I pretty much tried to live a super-sterile life this past year. But now that I’m vaccinated “the gloves are off”..the latex that is.. it’s time to get down and dirty again which is the basic thrust of Dr. Chutkhan’s work: LIVE DIRTY- EAT CLEAN.
While I’m not suggesting you lick the handle on your grocery cart today, I am encouraging you (especially if you have kids) to read one of Chutkhan’s books or listen to the Rich Roll podcast in your car. Rich is an UBER liberal, “earth man” and some of the issues brought up are very controversial, especially now that we’ve been through this pandemic, but I like to give everyone a full and fair hearing; disagreement on specific topics is not an across the board disqualification.
I learned a lot.

why my pre-k classes usually do not get too ill, we build up immunity early and often in the dirt and with everything we touch

I 100% agree. I worry about the possible effects of all the kids quarantined this past year. Hopefully their parents are making up for lost opportunities to “get dirty.”

My doctor said unequivocally that no vaccinated should wear masks right now, unless they’re in hospital or nursing home (he stated we should always wear masks in those settings) and if you’re doctor says you should wear one. He said our immune systems are shot from the past 18 months and we won’t recover from normal colds if we continue

Was he wearing one in his office? Mine was and had a sign on the door..I guess that’s different, right? It’s not like he’s in the grocery store..but back in the day-prior to Covid- he didn’t wear one so I just wonder..

I AGREE WITH HIM 100%. (Oh, I’m having an all caps kinda morning..haha) But did he wear a mask in his place? It’s a weird situation for them to be in.. a few of my kids work in hospitals and they think it will be a requirement forever

Getting my nails done at 9..I’m giddy just thinking about color options. Not sure if this is a good sign or a sad commentary on my boring life..

I think he has a point. I hear so many people saying they’re going to keep making to avoid future illnesses, but at some point, we have to take them off. And what’s going to happen then? A strong immune system is the best defense, I think.

I woke up today and for a minute thought I might have a cold..but it was just morning congestion of some kind. I didn’t know whether to be relieved or disappointed. My friend was just diagnosed with an auto immune disorder..no fun at all. I hope all these newer mommies are getting their toddlers out and about and making up for lost time..they truly were bubble babies-not good.
