A wonderful thing happened to me yesterday.
I shared a problem I’m having with a group of ladies at church;
an attitude problem that I just CANNOT seem to shake…
a problem that is slowly damaging a very important relationship.
One of the women came up to me privately later and we talked a bit further about the situation. She lovingly suggested ways I could exercise a bit more self control, understand my motivations and soften my attitude. I know I can (and must) improve in this area–I KNOW it’s up to me to take steps forward and yet I keep self-sabotaging. At the end of our conversation she said “Cindy, I’m going to hold you accountable.. I will ask you about this next week.”
Whaaaat??
😳
And just like that, it wasn’t simply about me and this other person anymore..the one I’m having a problem with..
Nope, suddenly it was about me being accountable to someone else who will simply ask me if I am staying on track and making good on my commitment to do better.
It’s the equivalent of a personal trainer.. for my soul.. and it feels a lot different when you gotta go back in a week and report your progress, or lack thereof, right?
😬…🤔…👍
How blessed I am to have people in my life who care enough to hold me accountable. I think we all need that-especially when we’re stuck in a rut, don’t you?
A shift in perspective can change everything

I totally agree. Plus, when someone tells you they are basically going to “check in on your progress”..I find myself less focused on the problem and more focused on doing what I know I should/can to fix it.

That sounds like a wise friend, who cares for you. Having a personal trainer for our souls is a great blessing. We all need to encourage each other, and hold each other accountable, as we continue to walk with the Lord. 🤗

It’s the strangest thing.. while I seem perfectly OK disappointing myself..I do NOT want to disappoint her.. 🤔

Sometimes you can achieve the same thing by writing it down and come back often if you are closer to achieving the ends. That way you hold yourself accountable to yourself.

I agree! I have a wonderful planner where you write down your goals for the week..month and day of course. I like to check in on Weds to see how I’m doing.
