Heavenly Coincidence

“Is she the woman with the southern drawl?” I asked my friend as we texted back and forth, “the one with diabetes whose glucose monitor beeps every once in a while in class?”

“No..” came the next bubble, “that’s not her-that’s Mary*, Faye*’s kinda quiet, a snowbird– she’s doesn’t live here year-round.”

“The one with the grandson in the military?” I pressed, wracking my brain trying to put names to faces and piece together the seating arrangement in our bible study class. I had joined the group in the fall of 2019 and it was suspended of course as Corona became more of a threat the following Spring.

My friend had texted to let me know that three women in the study needed prayer. One of the women, Faye, had been diagnosed with Covid and was now in the hospital. Heaven help me, I just could NOT remember who she was.

“No, she’s not the one with the grandson in the Army,” my friend continued “Faye’s pretty tall, always well dressed..”

And then, suddenly, I remembered who Faye was and where she sat. We have quite a few older ladies in our group, some of them real talkative, some of them quiet like Faye; all of them profoundly faithful women with hearts of pure gold.

My friend and I texted our TTYLs, I said a prayer for Faye and the others and got on with my day.

That afternoon as I pulled out the mail from our box, I noticed an envelope hand-addressed to me from Ohio. I looked at the label in left corner to see who it was from. (I don’t know anyone who lives in Ohio)

I couldn’t believe it..

it was from Faye!

Dear Cindy, she began..

I am a fellow classmate in the Tuesday morning bible study. I’m not sure if I remember who you are or if you remember who I am, but God knows us both very well. Just a note to let you know that we are fine in Ohio and my prayers are with the class meeting members. It is strengthening to be reinforced that we will get through this.

Yours in Christ,

Faye

I guess Faye had taken it upon herself to send notes to her classmates to encourage them during this time of separation. It just so happened that I got my card on the morning that I received word of her hospitalization.

“God knows us both very well..” Faye wrote and she is right.

He knows everything.

He knows me, He knows Faye

He knows my family and He knows hers

He knows you too.

So when we fall short,

when we can’t remember,

when we run out of strength or hope or direction,

when we are scared..

We can know for sure that He is there.

He knows who we are, where we are and what we need.

Faye closed her letter with scripture:

“Be strong and courageous, do not fear or be in dread, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deut- 31:6

Amen Faye, Amen.
